MAIN DUTIES:
Senior executive of the company, directing the day-to-day activities of the company, personally accountable for:

• Formulation of the strategic policy and direction of the company
• Development and delivery of tactical responses to current operational situations

BIO:
On 1st May 1998, David was appointed Managing Director of Unisheff Ventures Limited – since renamed Sheffield University Enterprises Limited (SUEL). Prior to this, he had worked for Ford Motor Company, British Leyland (now Rover), Rank Xerox Limited and Cambridge Consultants Limited. He has co-founded and invested in three start-up companies Artificial Intelligence Limited, Strand Software Technologies Limited and The Customer Engagement Company.
Having worked for three large multi-national companies, one medium sized consultancy and participated in three start-ups, David enjoys pitting his broad industrial experience against the challenge of identifying how best to commercialise the vast range of intellectual property created by staff at the University of Sheffield.

David has a degree in Mathematics from King’s College, London University. He has had several articles published in the technical press on topics ranging from the industrial applications of parallel and distributed processing to the commercial applications of artificial intelligence. More recently he co-authored a paper in the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology entitled, “Practical Experiences in Starting Up Life Science Companies in the Academic Sector”.
