RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Business Assessment of University of Sheffield Intellectual Property across the Engineering Departments – with specific responsibility for Civil & Structural Engineering and the Polymer Centre.

MAIN DUTIES:
On receipt of a Commercial Opportunities Disclosure from the University of Sheffield, work begins within the Commercial Assessment process to engage with the academic(s) to provide a comprehensive project appraisal. Where applicable, this review could lead to either company spin-out licensing opportunities. Additional duties have included actively serving as a Board Director on several spin-outs.

BIO:
An education at the University of Sheffield, was followed by a 30 year career, 27 years at Director level, predominantly in the special steel and oil/gas industries. During this period he conducted business on a worldwide basis but specifically in the Middle East, Far East and North America. Initiated four company start-ups, three of which were subsequently sold to quoted/internationally recognised major companies.

Since arriving at SUEL in September 2002 he has organised the spin-out of a number of new companies (now a director of 5 of these) and supervises a portfolio of project opportunities arising from the Engineering/Polymer Centre R & D activities.
