In the Millennium year ECUS played a pivotal role in the University of Sheffield's winning bid for a Queen's Anniversary Prize. The Queen's Prize is the most distinguished award that can be made to a UK institution for higher education. The awards recognise the outstanding contribution that universities in the United Kingdom make to the intellectual, economic, cultural and social life of the nation. The equivalent of the Queen's Award to Industry, this prestigious prize was awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of environmental outreach.
